Indian Valley Board of Education approves pay raise for superintendent – New Philadelphia Times Reporter

June 21 Meeting

KEY ACTION: Members of the Indian Valley Board of Education approved an addendum to the contract of Superintendent Ira Wentworth, which includes provisions for severance payment not only upon retirement, but upon death while employed by the district.

The board also set his salary as follows: Effective Aug. 1, 2021, $127,500; effective Aug. 1, 2022, $132,000; effective Aug. 1, 2023, $136,500.

DISCUSSION: Board members discussed instances in which employees of other districts haddied, and families were unable to receive severance payment from the district. The members of the school board agreed that they wished to make this part of the district policy, for the good of their employees.

OTHER ACTION:

• Approved an overnight trip for the high school volleyball team July 19-21 to attend the Sports Express Volleyball Center in Mason, Ohio.

• Approved the non-routine use of school buses for Fuel Ministries’ Off-Road Camp summer recreation program with transportation between Camp Zimmerman, Gnadenhutten, and Crow Canyon, Uhrichsville, from July 26-30, with all expenses paid in advance by Fuel Ministries

• Approved the following foreign exchange students for enrollment to Indian Valley High School for the 2021-2022 school year: Pitt Hijbroek, Netherlands, grade 11; and Hugo Soderberg Canellada, Spain, grade 11.

• Approved the retirement resignation of Libby Deetz, middle school ELA teacher, effective at the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year.

• Approved the following for 1-year teaching contracts for the 2021-22 school year, pending completed credentials and background checks: Cassidy Mast – intervention specialist, Port Washington and Midvale; Casey Edwards – high school science; and Hunter Dyer, seventh grade ELA,

• Approved Katlynn Gilbert as special education summer school teacher at a rate of $22.50 per hour.

• Approved Patty Couts as a Jumpstart summer school teacher at a rate of $22.50 per hour. 

• Approved an addendum to the contract dated April 7, 2020, of Treasurer Andrew Bache, which includes provisions for severance payment not only upon retirement, but upon death while employed by the district
