Peoria Public Schools elects new Board of Education president – HOI ABC

PEORIA (HOI) — Peoria Public Schools elected a new president of the Board of Education Thursday.

Former vice president Gregory Wilson will replace the outgoing Doug Shaw.

Wilson has spent years serving the board and has three children of his own in Peoria schools.

He says he plans to focus his role on three different issues.

Wilson says the first is improving communication between board members, administrators, teachers and other district staff.

The second is focusing on innovation and thinking outside the box.

The third – he says – is most important.

“One of my biggest tasks is to fight for equality for all of our students … We have multiple races in our district and multiple students that come from different cultures. We need to make sure ALL students are taken care of in the right way,” Wilson said.

Wilson says he looks forward to working alongside his fellow board members, including former PTO president Michael Murphy, who was elected the newest member in April.
