While the rest of the country was focused on the Olympic Trials, the gymnastics team from Signal School of Physical Education were making their mark at the 2021 AAU National Gymnastics Championship in Savannah, Ga., held June 23-27. Located on Signal Mountain, the gym sent 13 girls that earned a spot at the Nationals.
The AAU National Gymnastics Championship hosted more than 2,500 competitors from gyms across the country. The gymnasts competed in four different divisions of skill levels – Level 1, Xcel Bronze, Xcel Silver and Xcel Gold, as well as separate age groups.
After a trying year of dealing with the pandemic, the hard work of Signal Mountain’s gymnasts, coaches and parents paid off.
Every member of the team medaled in their level and age group. In all, they achieved 13 National titles. Of special note, Millie Perdomo and Emmy Welch won 1st place All Around in their respective divisions having received the highest combined scores in all four events: balance beam, uneven bars, vault, and floor exercise. Anna Harper Mueller won 1st place on the uneven bars with a perfect score of 10, a rare achievement.
